You know him for multiple reasons! To some, he’s Doug Heffernan from the sitcom The King Of Queens (1998), while to others – he’s Albert from the Eva Mendes – Will Smith starrer Hitch! However, to a section of his fans, he’s an inspiration who shed some hefty pounds to fit his character in the flick – Here Comes The Boom. For the unversed, the 58-year-old comedian-actor-producer documented a video depicting his, that is, Kevin James weight loss journey to inspire his fans.

Who is Kevin James? 

Originally christened Kevin George Knipfing, he is an American comedian, actor, producer, and screenwriter, specifically known for his sitcom The King of Queens. He has further appeared in numerous movies like – Hitch, 50 First Dates, Grown Ups, You Don’t Mess With The Zohan, and more! 

His excessive weight and significant weight loss have gained immense media coverage from time to time. 

Why is Kevin James’s weight in the news? 

In one of the recent episodes of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Kevin James humorously revealed that – his ‘excessive weight’ led him to lose out on plump movie projects! 

As the host urged him to reveal more, Kevin went on to state that – ‘he gained weight massively’ from eating during the holidays. That led him to lose out on a couple of movies (a ‘serious horror’ film was also part of that). In fact, in one of the movies that he was currently shooting, producers asked him to shed some weight immediately before they could continue. 

All of this led to Kevin James health complications, leading him to take his health seriously. Thereafter, he decided to follow a strict and comprehensive diet with specific workouts, leading him to lose over 80 lbs in a stipulated period.

What was Kevin James weight loss journey like? 

For the unaware, James, right from his school days, was a bulky man. Though he had tried to control his weight significantly, due to a medical injury during childhood, things went haywire. Added to that was the range of professional demands, wherein he had to gain weight for one film and, within a short span, lose for another. All these resulted in him gaining an untoward weight. 

However, the film – Here Comes The Boom almost came like a blessing in disguise. The producers scouted him to play the role of a teacher, who was a mixed martial arts student. To do justice to that role, he trained with MMA’s Ryan Parson and did manage to lose a hefty 80 pounds! 

During that training period, he decided to document his journey under the moniker of Kevin James weight loss to inspire his fans. Well, the good news is – he did manage to lose those pounds, documented the video, and even went ahead and shared his routine with his fans. 

What was his workout routine like? 

Since the target was following the Here Comes The Loss weight loss schedule, his trainer included some specific workout strategies in his chart. Let’s give you a look into that – 

  • Kevin started his exercise regimen with a combination of – cardio, strength training, and high-intensity interval training (HIIT). The key idea was to – concentrate on increased metabolism, burn calories, and boost lean muscle mass. 
  • The next thing that automatically became a part of his workout regimen was – including a range of activities. From push-ups to kickboxing, his training aimed to shed the ‘tough belly fat’ that seemed to have added on due to his sedentary lifestyle. 
  • The last key aspect of Kevin James weight loss journey, as scripted in the video, was – developing the body’s core strength. For that, his trainer recommended – resistance exercises and adding a medicine ball to his training schedule. This compact routine helped him develop a much-toned physique and shed the pounds uniformly. 

To date, he stated, he follows parts of this training regimen (as and when required) to remain fit. 

How did he manage his diet? 

A proportional and correct diet played a crucial role in this Kevin James weight loss story. Many people think that only workouts are good enough to lose weight and even maintain a healthy body in the long run. However, that is far from the truth. Along with an exercise regimen, you need a diet that has healthy proportions of fats, carbs, proteins, and vitamins. 

In this section, we will give you an idea of the diet that Kevin James followed during his transformation – 

  • During his weight loss period, Kevin’s dietitian ensured that he had vegetables for every meal that he had. At the same time, he also ensured limited/no consumption of – processed foods and sugary drinks (candies, cola, or any boxed juices). 
  • Since the whole process was categorically targeted at Here Comes The Boom weight loss standards, James regularly had kale juice to detox his body. 
  • The shift was naturally towards – non-starchy veggies like broccoli, leafy greens, and bell peppers rather than sticking to vegetables with high starch content. 
  • In terms of whole food – Kevin’s dietitian categorically recommended reducing carbs in his diet and including healthy proteins and fats. Taking that into account, his food bowl had portions of – avocados, lean meat, fatty fish, and dairy products. 
  • The last thing that made up his perfect Kevin James weight loss diet plan was – lots of water and fresh fruit and vegetable juices. Packed juices and sugary drinks were a complete no-no. 

Thus, by following this regimen, the man managed to lose 80 pounds and become much healthier than he was before. 

How does he manage to maintain his weight?
